Why are you coming to Sydney?
Luxury escape with restaurants, shopping and harbour views.
The Rocks is The Area to be, right on the harbour. Darling Harbour is also great and the biggest shopping area is in the City Centre.
Discovery experience wandering and exploring all Sydney has to offer.
The Rocks near the Circular Quay is ideal for ferry/train/bus connections, but accommodation options are limited if you have a tight budget. There is easy public transport to Circular Quay from the City Centre and cheaper Central Station, and Darling Harbour already has many of the best attractions.
Family holiday with safer areas close to kids attractions, parks and other free fun.
Darling Harbour is the best. Some of the City Centre hotels are close to Hyde Park, the Botanic Gardens, monorail to Darling Harbour and buses to The Rocks and ferries. Central Station has good budget options for a crowd but you'll have to travel a bit further to get to the sights.
Party trip for pubs, clubs, and all the action.
The Rocks and Darling Harbour are the upmarket end of town, otherwise try Kings Cross.
Traveller or backpacker on a budget to linger longer
Central Station and Kings Cross have a good range of budget options.
Business in the city centre
The City Centre, The Rocks or Darling Harbour areas are all good, depending where your business is. If you are driving to Sydney and want to avoid the city centre the Motorways will take you close to the Kings Cross area. If you are on a flying visit with late arrival or early departure search the Airport area in the general Sydney search tool.
Business outside the city centre
It can still be handy to stay in the city areas listed above, but if you want to stay closer to where you are working then check out the list of the major centres in the general Sydney search tool. These include the business hubs of North Sydney, Chatswood and Parramatta.
Visiting friends and relatives
If you want to stay in the city centre close to public transport that will take you anywhere in Sydney try The Rocks, Central station, or City Centre areas. Or if you want to stay closer to your friends outside the city centre then check out the general Sydney search tool for an area near them.
